Default application in OS X

If you have been trying to figure out how to change what program – or “application” in Mac parlance – is used to open certain filetypes, here’s how to do it.

  1. Locate an example file of the type you want to change.
  2. Right-click it and select Get Info, or just click it and hit Cmd+I.
  3. In the “Open with:” section, select the application you would like to open that type by default.
  4. Click “Change All…” and confirm
